Band of Oz comes Alive on Thursday

Staff Report

LUMBERTON — The Band of Oz will perform on Thursday as the Alive After 5 concert series continues.

The band will perform from 7 to 9:30 p.m. in the downtown plaza at Third and Chestnut streets. The event is free to the public.

The Band of Oz formed in 1969 as a part-time band playing fraternity parties and high school proms throughout the South. The band went on the road full time 10 years later and draws beach music fans throughout the Southeast, primarily in the Carolinas, Virginia, and Georgia.

The band, which features a full horn section to total an eight-member group, performs more than 200 shows per year for corporate events, festivals, concerts, wedding receptions, and many other public and private events.

Bring chairs but no coolers. Beer, wine and food will be on sale with proceeds supporting downtown revitalization efforts.

The weather forecast for Thursday is for mostly clear skies, with a high of 88 degrees, which should have cooled off some by the time the band starts playing.
