LUMBERTON — Both the father and son allegedly involved in a pay dispute that resulted in the shooting death of a Lumberton man are now charged with murder.
Nathaniel Logan Locklear, 28, of 781 Treasure Drive, Maxton, has been charged with first-degree murder in the shooting death on Friday evening of Ronnie Lee Sampson, 43, of Lumberton, according Robeson County Sheriff’s Office. His father, Jonathan Brent Skipworth, 54, of Greenville Drive, Lumberton, was already charged with Sampson’s murder.
Both Locklear and Skipworth are in the Robeson County Detention Center and have been denied bond.
Sheriff’s deputies were called to 385 Odum Road in Lumberton at 7:34 p.m. Friday about a person being shot. When they arrived, Sampson was found dead on the roof of the house.
The investigation revealed Sampson and several other workers were roofing the Odum Road house, according to information from the Sheriff’s office. According to Major Anthony Thompson of the Robeson County Sheriff’s Office, there was a dispute with one of the workers about him and his son being paid for the day’s work. The worker left the job site and went home to get his firearm. The worker went back to the job site and shot Sampson while he was still on the roof.
The investigation is ongoing.
