LUMBERTON — A Shannon man imprisoned at the Robeson County Detention Center escaped today and was recaptured within 90 minutes, according to Robeson County Sheriff Ken Sealey.

Danny Ray Locklear, 27, who has been jailed since 2014 on armed robbery charges, escaped around 5:30 p.m. this afternoon. Sealey said that a combined effort between the Robeson County Sheriff’s Office and Lumberton police led to the swift apprehension of the escapee.

Sealey did not explain how Locklear managed to break out of custody.

“That’s what we are working on finding that out right now,” Sealey said.

According to court records, Locklear was charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon in July 2014 and is still awaiting trial. He has previous convictions for assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury, larceny and breaking and entering. Locklear served three years in prison for the assault and eight months for the thefts. He has also previously had his parole revoked due to further criminal charges.
