FAYETTEVILLE — The N.C. Department of Transportation has begun planning for the new State Transportation Improvement Program, a 10-year blueprint of construction and multi-modal projects, and is seeking the public’s input.
During the first phase of creating the draft, local Transportation Department divisions and planning organizations submit projects for consideration for funding. Projects are then evaluated and those that score high enough are added to the improvement plan.
The public comment period will provide feedback as divisions submit projects for the plan that will span from 2020 to 2029.
The 2018-2027 STIP was finalized recently. The program is updated every two years..
Each division will hold drop-in office hours for a week-long period to provide members of the public flexibility. To give suggestions and hear about potential projects in Division 6, which includes Robeson, Bladen, Columbus, Cumberland and Harnett counties, stop by the Division 6 office at 558 Gillespie St. in Fayetteville from Aug. 21 to Aug. 25. The office is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
In addition, residents have until Aug. 31 to submit comments about the upcoming STIP process to Division Planning Engineer David Keilson at 919-220-4600 or firstname.lastname@example.org, or by visiting NCDOT’s website.
