ST. PAULS — A 45-year-old St. Pauls man is being held in the Robeson County jail under $25,000 bond after exposing himself to students at St. Pauls Elementary School, according to St. Pauls Police Chief Tommy Hagens.

Hagens said the mental health of Michael Ray, of N.C. 20 East, is being evaluated by the Robeson County District Attorney’s Office. Hagens said it’s not the first time Ray, who often walks the town’s roads, has exposed himself, but it is the first time he’s done it near school grounds.

“Something has to be done with him,” Hagens said on Wednesday. “We can’t have him going around exposing himself to children, or grown folks either.”

Ray was arrested on April 18, a little after noon, and charged with felony indecent exposure. An employee of the school called 911 after seeing him standing across from school grounds, near the railroad tracks that run parallel to East Worth Street, Hagens said.
