Night Out events are still growing

"Water Works" is the appropriate theme of the July edition of the SP Chamber of Commerce's Night out festivities, which returns to Broad Street this Saturday, July 9 from 5 PM until 8 PM.

This one will be all wet! And not with the much needed rain. The fire department will hose and cool kids (of all ages) near the War Memorial and there will be plenty of water gun fights, water balloon tossing, water related games and plenty of watermelon. A highlight might be the first watermelon scramble, where a greased watermelon is placed on the ground and kids will attempt to pick it up and run with it, while the fire department sprays the melon and tries to keep it just out of reach. Should be fun! The Night Out will also include a tremendously popular Cruisin' St. Pauls Cruise In of vintage autos and motorcycles, sidewalk vendors, food, and plenty of shopping attractions.

While this event is pretty much scheduled and set, the next few Night Out events are still taking shape. The August 13 NO will have as its theme "Back To School Bash," and local businesses, churches and residents are being asked to donate necessary school supplies to be donated to SP Elementary School for distribution to students there who need them, or directly to the kids themselves during the Night Out.

The September event will, if cooperation and participation increase, have as its theme "Ole!" and thus become a salute to Hispanic heritage and culture and to the Hispanic community here.

The October Night Out, set for the 29th, will, of course, have Oktoberfest/Halloween as its theme. This is always one of the very biggest and very best Night Outs, when everyone gets into "The Spirit" (pun intended!)of things!

Read The Review to stay abreast of Night Out event schedules, themes, needed items, volunteer opportunities, etc. Working together this community can restore excitement and vitality to its downtown!
