Chamber firms plans, votes for banquet

Preparations for its annual General Membership Banquet were foremost among the items the St. Pauls Area Chamber of Commerce addressed at its board of directors meeting last Thursday afternoon.
The banquet will be held at the Dr. R. E. Hooks Community Center on Fri., Apr. 27 beginning with a social at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are now on sale for the event, which will feature native son and NC Secretary of Agriculture candidate Walter Smith as keynote speaker.
Before the event, board members prepared a list of Executive Committee members, including: Suzanne Malloy, President; Bill Williams, President-Elect; Jason Bullock, Past President; Doris Mclean, Vice-President; Libby Ferguson, Secretary; and Jimmy Taylor, Treasurer. This nominated slate of officers will be voted on by the members at the banquet.
Attendees will also be asked to approve a new board of directors: One year terms: Bill Millar, Beverly Weeks, Jimmy Taylor, Doris McLean, Sonya Johnson, Betty Biggs, and a Nationwide Insurance representative.
Two year terms: Suzanne Malloy, Jerry Weindel, Jason Bullock, Bill Williams, George Wilcox.
Three year terms: Eddy Covil, Duncan Mackie, Libby Ferguson, Sue Garrett, Fadhl Alhobishi, Stuart Turille, and Jansen King.
Tarpackers Restaurant will cater the event and offer two entree choice, chicken and prime rib. Tickets, $30 individual and $50 for couple, must be purchased by Apr. 23 and buyers will be asked to make their selection when they buy. Banquet attendees will also be asked to approve a budget for fiscal year 21012-2013. This budget was presented by Malloy at the Thursday meeting.
President Jason Bullock told the board that the new I-95 billboard would be ready for installation within a week.
Malloy said that the membership drive information will be mailed with the banquet invitations.
A discussion of the group’s by-laws and constitution was held and need for volunteers on the search for same was made known.
The Chamber’s office has been moved to Foxridge Apartments’ community office space on McGoogan Street.
