SP to pause, reflect, remember and thank during Memorial Day observance

The St. Pauls VFW Post 12025, the St. Pauls American Legion Post 5, St. Pauls Chamber and McNeill Mackie Funeral Home are sponsoring the Memorial Day Service to be held at the War Memorial beginning at 10 a.m. on Mon., May 28.

The ceremony will include a wreath laying in remembrance of those who have fallen in combat in defense of the free world during times of war by members of St. Pauls’ 171st Engineer Co, North Carolina National Guard.

The special guest speaker will be Maj. Matthew B. Hash. Maj. Hash is currently serving as Operations Officer at the XVIII Airborne Corps G7, Fort Bragg. He has been on active duty for 15 years and has participated in three deployments to Iraq as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation New Dawn.

Special entertainment will be provided by vocalist Rachel Crenshaw.

The short, solemn service will be concluded by the playing of “Taps” in honor of all veterans who gave their lives in service to this country.

Afterwards, light refreshments will be provided by McNeill Mackie Funeral Home.

This is St. Pauls’ salute to the fallen, and every citizen is cordially invited to take time out, remember, reflect and thank those who have the ultimate sacrifice on their behalf.
