After a slow start gave cause for concern, the 2009 edition of the John Walker Memorial Christmas Fund made tremendous progress this week as gifts big and small came pouring in.

The total jumped from about $4,600 to just over $10,000 in the biggest week of the annual seven week drive so far during the 2009 run.

The Walker Fund, now in its 24th year, is a special St. Pauls Christmas time tradition that means as much to those who donate as to those who receive gift certificates for food, fuel, clothing and toys.

The Walker Fund, named in memory and honor of the late John Walker, a devoted St. Pauls Lions Club member, is a state award winning project.

Tax deductible gifts can be made to the Fund, and recorded in The St. Pauls Review, as “from,” “in memory of,” “in honor of,” or anonymously.

Gift certificates will go out soon, so if you are planning on making a donation, please do so immediately so that your gift can be put to work right here in this community.

Please mail your gift to Walker Fund, P.O.Box 653, St. Pauls, North Carolina 28384. Thank you!
