The earthquake disaster has brought teams of doctors and nurses and other medical personnel to the devastated country as part of a huge relief effort. One of those responding to the critical situation in the Caribbean country has St. Pauls ties.

Ed Odum has informed The Review that Dr. Marion Pate is in the island country assisting with medical care.

“People in St. Pauls who remember Dr. Marion Pate will recall that he had two sons, one of whom became a medical doctor,” Mr. Odum said. “Marty is the doctor and he now lives and practices in Sanford.

“According to Dr. Robert G. Townsend, who is connected to the Pate family, and who is now retired and living in Raeford, Marty has been to Haiti three times to help with the wounded earthquake victims,” Mr. Odum said.

“St. Pauls can be proud of Marty, who received some of his early education in St. Pauls schools.”
