There will be three outstanding St. Pauls High School students leading their class, as they have for the past four years, at Commencement exercises on the morning of Friday, June 11, 2010.

Ethan Caudell will serve as Valedictorian of the SPHS Class of 2010, while Andrew Dillon Burns and Kacie Jeanette Hogan will serve as co-Salutatorians.

The Class of 2010 will graduate 191 when the seniors gather together for the last time for graduation ceremonies at the Givens Performing Arts Center at UNCP.

Ethan Caudell

At the head of that class is Ethan Caudell, the son of Dohn and Luanne Caudell of St. Pauls.

Ethan combined a stellar academic career with an equally impressive athletic career during his four years at SPHS. In addition to being the top student academically over each of his four years, he won two consecutive state 2A singles tennis championships, in 2009 and 2010, ending his three years of singles play for the Bulldogs with undefeated sophomore and senior seasons and with only one loss during his junior season.

While the tennis trophies shine brightly, Ethan’s accomplishments in the classroom and in his community are equally impressive. He was Chief Marshal during his junior year, a member of the National Honor Society, a North Carolina Scholar, a Student of Excellence, and recipient of the 2010 Jimmy Kinlaw Award, symbolic of the school’s top student athlete.

He has received many academic awards, including English IV Honors, Discrete Math Honors, Spanish, AP Biology, and the Woodmen of the World History Award.

He has served on the school’s Student Government Association, as an officer for the National Honor Society and in many other campus groups and activities.

In the community, he served at his church and during the many of the annual Jamie Reaves Tennis Championships.

He will enter East Carolina University this fall to study biology before entering Dental School.

Dillon Burns

Andrew Dillon Burns worked hard in the classroom and on the job while earning his ranking as tied for second academically in the Class Of 2010.

The son of Kaye and Andy Burns, and a North Carolina Scholar, Dillon began his own business of producing and marketing deer corn (at the age of 12), while also working at his family’s business.

A North Carolina Scholar, Dillon received three local scholarships at Awards Day ceremonies, including the Betty Powers Memorial, the Chamber of Commerce, and the William Espey Memorial Scholarships.

At SPHS, he held offices in many different clubs and participated in many activities, including playing on the golf team. He was a member of the National Honor Society, and the National Technical Honor Society.

He further distinguished himself as one of the pioneers in the Dual Enrollment program in the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics, which he completed on June 6, 2010.

He plans to enter East Carolina University this Fall, where he will study Biology and Chemistry before enrolling in its Dental School.

Kacie Hogan

Kacie Jeanette Hogan tied for second place academically and so will serve as co-Salutatorian with Dillon Burns at graduation ceremonies.

Kacie is the daughter of Valerie and Robert Hogan, Jr.

At SPHS, Valerie accomplished much while participating in a number of clubs, groups and activities.

A North Carolina Scholar, Kacie was in the Art Club, the National Technical Honor Society, and served in the Student Government Association. She was presented the Art 1B award, significant because she plans to enter the Living Arts College at the School of Communication Arts in Raleigh this fall. She plans to major in animation and game design there.

Kacie also won the NC Folk Arts Festival logo design contest this year.

Congratulations to these three outstanding and deserving students who will go out in the St. Pauls High School Class of 2010 at the very top.
