If early indications are accurate, and if everyone who signs up shows up, the St. Pauls Has Got talent show will be big and a great source of fun and pride.

The talent show will be held during the Night Out, sponsored by the St. Pauls Area Chamber of Commerce, on Saturday, August 14 from 6 PM until 9 PM.

Entry forms for the talent show are still available, and will be through August 11 at The St. Pauls Review, McNeill Mackie Funeral Home, St. Pauls Drug, and Special Moments Florist.

Talented people will enter in the following age categories: up to age 7, eight to 13, 14 to 19, 20 to 35, and 36 and over.

Contestants will vie for savings bonds being donated by BB&T, First Bank, and Lumbee Guaranty Bank and by SP Lions Club members, and by the Chamber of Commerce.

First place winners in each age category will receive a $75 savings bond, and second place winners will each receive a $50 bond. Bring a lawn chair and get comfortable in the to be blocked off parking lot directly south of the Jane Hall Hylton Pavilion on Broad Street.

The theme of the August Night Out will be Back to School, and in keeping with that theme, free school supplies will be distributed while they last by First Baptist Church and by Primary Health Choice.

Robeson County Sheriff’s Department Gang Detective Jose Hernandez will be presenting gang related information to all students and parents. Gangs are currently a very real and an ever growing problem in schools everywhere. This information booth might help your child steer clear of gang initiations and threats.

In addition to these great reasons to come out and enjoy the Night Out, Dempsey and Cecil have worked to put together another great cruise-in, with vintage and muscle cars and trucks, motorcycles and a new addition--some old timey farm tractors.

There will be shaved ice, funnel cakes, collard sandwiches, jewelry, and other arts and crafts items available for purchase, and there will be pony rides and toy train rides also available for children. Volunteers from the library will again sponsor a book sale on the sidewalk in front of the library.

There will be plenty to see, do, listen to, enjoy and learn at the August Night Out, so please make plans to come downtown, stroll around, visits the shops, salons and stores open especially for the occasion, and support the vendors and the downtown restaurants.
